Vinnu - waterfall

With its 865 meters, Vinnu is Europe's highest waterfall. Vinnu originates from the glacier Vinnufonna, which is the largest glacier between Jostedalsbreen and Svartisen. About. six km. from Sunndalsøra on Rv 70, is the picnic area Holsskeiet. From here you can see Vinnu plunge down the steep mountainside. When the waterfall is at its greatest, it spreads like a bridal veil over a large part of the mountainside.

Vinnu is a favorite photo object and in summer there are many cars parked along the road to get the best picture of the waterfall. If you want to get closer to the waterfall, it is possible to follow the marked path from Holsskeiet. The path has been cleared and it takes approx. 20 minutes to walk up to the foot of the falls. There are plans to build a Sherpa staircase along the waterfall, which will provide opportunities for easily accessible and spectacular nature experiences.

Sunndal with its mighty mountains, has several world-class waterfalls. Not so well known and a little more hidden than Vinnu, Skorga, 864 meters, plunges down the mountainside. It is Europe's second highest waterfall and is located approx. to km. from Vinnufossen. In addition to Vinnu and Skorga, Sunndal also has Åmotan, which means river meeting. As many as six rivers meet with their waterfalls.
